Applying For a Scholarship

Send a 1-2 page summary of your proposal including the place or event at which the work is to be presented, proof of attendance at the event, recent transcripts and a copy of your student ID if applicable. Also provide us with two references.

Each complete application must be received by December 31, 2007 to be considered. Late applications will be filed and reviewed after all timely applications have been reviewed. Please note that the Foundation does not take partial applications. Wait until you have all your materials before you send us anything.

All recipients are required to submit a finished product to the Foundation and may be invited to a scholars conference to discuss their work.

Each year, one applicant is selected as the recipient of a scholarship in one of the categories listed below. Scholarship amounts vary from year to year but are distributed equally among the scholars. No applicant may apply for more than one scholarship. Selection is based on merit and need.

(You will need Acrobat Reader to view this form)

Selection Process

Each eligible application is read by three members of the selection committee. The names of the readers are not made public to avoid potential conflicts. The applications have names and all identifying information redacted from them to ensure fairness and objectivity during the selection process. There is no appeals process for those who are not selected, although, all applicants are welcome to resubmit their proposal.

Each reader scores the application on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest. The scores are then averaged and the highest average score is awarded the scholarship. In the event that there is a single point difference in the top two applications, these are read by one member of the selection committee who scores them. The fourth score is then averaged into the overall score and the highest score is then awarded the scholarship.

All recipients are notified by mail and their names are posted on our website. We cannot notify those who have not been successful. Please do not call to find out the status of your application.

In the event that a named scholarship is not awarded in any year, the board of advisors decide on the allocation of the funds of that scholarship either to disburse it to other scholars or to retain the funds until a suitable candidate is found.
